Lesson Plan 9: Art Studio Four - Monadnock Angel

Thayer was a portrait artist of celebrities and high society. He often added wings to his subjects. One of his last...
...paintings was the Monadnock Angel, painted to protect the mountain in 1911. Make your own version of Monadnock Angel: yours can be a careful copy of the painting, in a smaller size, or a drawing of the painting, or an interpretation of the painting. Be prepared to explain your approach.

Teachers may request a fine art reproduction of the painting on satin to hang in a classroom as a banner for this assignment. The banner (at left) is 42 inches wide and 60 inches long. Reproduced with permission from the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover MA.
